The project began with looking for neglected materials in the city, in the process, I began to pay attention to the fallen leaves. I conducted a series of experiments on them to explore the characteristics of fallen leaves. In this process, I referred to different types of relevant precedents. Finally, I mixed pine leaves with traditional paste to make the deciduous leaves naturally form in the drying process, forming a beautiful and energetic surface.
Fallen leaves in the soil can protect the roots and provide nutrition, but the trees in the city are planted in a hole, their leaves fall on the asphalt road and stone road, so that they are unable to do what they should do. Besides, in many cities, fallen leaves are still directly buried or burned as garbage.
So the 2nd stage uses fallen leaves from the city as raw materials to make temporary shelters which are simple and biodegradable, letting the fallen leaves still play the role of protection and warmth in the city. In this project, the fallen leaves are smashed, mixed with a small amount of flour and agar powder, steamed, and then pressed and cut into sheet materials. After testing, it has the characteristics of easy production, low cost, light weight, large load-bearing, thermal insulation and complete degradation, and consumes a small amount of water and energy in the production process.
